About The Author

HARLAN ABRAHAMS is a Denver-based writer, lawyer and former law professor.

He is the principal writer and co-author of the new book RAÚL CASTRO AND THE NEW CUBA: A Close-up View of Change, which was published in September of 2011 by McFarland & Company, a leading independent publisher of nonfiction and academic books. This book combines first-hand reporting from ABRAHAMS’ many trips to Cuba with a deep policy analysis of the sweeping changes that have taken place on the island since Fidel’s    “little brother” took the reins of power.

ABRAHAMS is also the principal writer and co-author of the bestselling book ON THE LIST: Fixing America’s Failing Organ Transplant System, published by Rodale Books in August of 2009. That book explores the growing global markets for human transplant organs, while telling the true life stories of two men, one rich and one poor, both lost in the "organ transplant labyrinth." The book also includes a thorough policy analysis of the organ transplant crisis in America, which today leaves over 112,000 people waiting “on the list” for life-saving organs.

In addition, ABRAHAMS has published many scholarly articles and written a novel that has been optioned by a Canadian film company to be made into a movie that will be shot on location in Havana, Cuba. He earned his bachelor’s degree and JD from the University of Nebraska and his LLM from Harvard Law School. He has taught at five law schools, earning tenure at two of them, and has served as a partner at two national law firms.
